Synopsis: WARNING: THIS BOOK IS DEFINITELY ONLY FOR AGES 18 OR OLDER. OLIVIA HAS CRAZY THOUGHTS. IF YOU ARE OFFENDED BY INAPPROPRIATE THOUGHTS I RECOMMEND YOU DON'T READ THIS. IF YOU HAVE VIRGIN EARS I RECOMMEND YOU DON'T READ THIS. IF YOU HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR THEN READ THIS.

Olivia Spurgeon has been a good girl her entire life. Her friends have called her Spurgeon the Virgin since 9th grade. Why? Because everyone in her group of friends had already lost there virginity by then. Over the past four years it has been like a foreign object attached to her and even named it something simple.

Virginity.

Now, she's a freshman in college and still hasn't done the deed. All three of her roommates do not have Virginity attached to them and they aren't scared to show it off. Olivia is jealous. She wants what they are having, feeling. One day she finally decides that she doesn't want Virginity attached to her anymore and begins the journey of losing it.

Review: 3 Stars - Losing Virginity by Ava Michaels is a “New Adult” contemporary title about a feisty college student who’s ready to take the next step in her life and has a plan to do just that.

Olivia is pretty funny in this story. There are some great lines for our female lead, sometimes so over the top I found myself giggling here and there while reading. She feels like she’s the only person left in college who’s a virgin and she’s looking for someone to change that. With some pretty crazy ideas and some cringe worthy dates Olivia feels like it’ll never happen.

While the story was, as mentioned above funny and somewhat over the top and gave me a lot of laughs the experience was up and down for me. Michaels had moments of brilliance and then moments I wish there was a bit more explanation or that she built further on certain points in the plot.

I liked Ryder; I think he totally changed the story and Olivia, which was good and bad. I had expected one story and it felt more like I was reading two different ones that were interwoven together. While sometimes it meshed, sometimes it was a bit… messy isn’t the right word. Confusing? Maybe. Which I think just goes back to the main issue for me, in that I think things needed to be a bit more polished. However, there were plenty of times where Olivia and Ryder had my heart melting and Ryder was a funny character as well.

The laughs kept coming as Olivia and her friends are over the top sex crazed college students as they try to help her on her mission to lose her virginity which often leads to some crazy times all around.

As you can see I’ve been going back and forth for this one since I’ve read it and writing this review isn’t any easier because there were things I highly enjoyed however in the end the book felt fluffy, for lack of a better word. For me this turned out to be more of a guilty pleasure book, full of laughs but not much connection with the characters. It’s not a bad read it just wasn’t what I expected. I wanted to love it and it didn’t quite hit that mark. I wanted more emotion, more angst, more…more.

All in all I think that if you love to laugh, and enjoy a character with best friends - almost as crazy as she is, with some rather interesting lines from beginning to end you’ll enjoy reading about Olivia’s quest. You’ll enjoy how Ryder affected her life and in turn how she affected his. While it wasn’t a 5 star review, in the end I did like it and I would recommend it for the laugh’s alone. Contemporary fans and those who enjoy “New Adult” should give this one a try and see what you think.
