Synopsis: She knew. That’s why Mom hadn’t opened the door. She knew he was dead.

Twenty years as an army brat and Ember Howard knew, too. The soldiers at the door meant her dad was never coming home. What she didn’t know was how she would find the strength to singlehandedly care for her crumbling family when her mom falls apart.

Then Josh Walker enters her life. Hockey star, her new next-door neighbor, and not to mention the most delicious hands that insist on saving her over and over again. He has a way of erasing the pain with a single look, a single touch. As much as she wants to turn off her feelings and endure the heartache on her own, she can’t deny their intense attraction.

Until Josh’s secret shatters their world. And Ember must decide if he’s worth the risk that comes with loving a man who could strip her bare.

Review: 4.5 Stars - Full Measures by debut author Rebecca Yarros was everything I was looking for and then some. It’s a wonderfully written “New Adult” contemporary title that’ll take readers throughout the life of December as she deals with the death of a family member. She’s takes strength to a whole new level within her roll of daughter, sister and college student.

This title is overflowing with angst and so many deep and heartbreaking emotions as December takes on more than her fair share of things when it comes to her family and her romantic relationship. Tough choices to help take care of her family have to be made and she makes them without much thought. She’s a great character yet takes some things beyond what she should and at times it kind of drove me nuts. As a reader I understand why she was confused after certain events took place, also why she was somewhat stand-offish and why she fought with some her decisions but some of those reasons also drove me nuts. I can only take so much before I get frustrated and am more than ready for a character to see the light so to speak.

Josh… I loved this guy. He’s a good guy with an underlying bad boy past. He has his own scars and I think my heart melted each and every time he was on the page. I couldn’t get enough of him and the more I learned about his past, his connection to Decembers family and all the little things he did to help her and her family, I couldn’t help for swoon. He’s smart, strong, courageous, kind, sweet, a hockey player and so much more!

The relationship between December and Josh ebbs and flows with its own set of hills and valleys. I was pulling for them the whole time and there might have been some tears at a couple of scenes, one with December’s brother Gus and Josh just crushed me.

The backdrop of a military family and history was such a driving force for all the characters’ and the way that Yarro’s portrayed life in the service was done amazingly well. I appreciated this part of the story and enjoyed what this aspect brought to these characters, their lives and choices.

In the end I loved the book. I loved the characters and I was sad to find myself at the end of the story. Josh and December are extremely memorable characters that I wouldn’t mind reading more about their journey in the future. If Yarro’s were to write it, I’d read it. Heck, I’m looking forward to checking out more from this author in the future no matter what she writes. I highly recommend this title to fans of contemporary romance and those who like “New Adult” or stories involving military life, then you’ve come to the right book. Happy Reading!

About the Author:

Rebecca Yarros is a hopeless romantic and lover of all things chocolate, coffee, and Paleo. In addition to being a mom, military wife, and blogger, she can never choose between Young Adult and New Adult fiction, so she writes both. She's a graduate of Troy University, where she studied European history and English, but still holds out hope for an acceptance letter to Hogwarts. Her blog, The Only Girl Among Boys, has been voted the Top Military Mom Blog the last two years, and celebrates the complex issues surrounding the military life she adores.

When she's not writing, she's tying on hockey skates for her kids, or sneaking in some guitar time. She is madly in love with her army-aviator husband of eleven years, and they're currently stationed in Upstate NY with their gaggle of rambunctious kiddos and snoring English Bulldog, but she would always rather be home in Colorado.
