Synopsis: Three went in. Three came out. None even a shadow of who they once were.

When their car breaks down, Dee, her boyfriend Luke, and his brother Mike walk through a winter storm to take refuge in a nearby town called Purity Springs. When they arrive, the emergency sirens are blaring and the small farming town seems abandoned. With no other shelter, they spend the night in an empty house.

But they soon discover that not everything in Purity Springs is as it seems. When the town's inhabitants suddenly appear the next morning, Dee, Luke, and Mike find themselves at the mercy of the charismatic leader, Elijah Hawkins, who plans to make Dee his new wife. Elijah's son, Joseph, offers to help them escape . . . but the price of his help may be more than Dee and her friends can bear.

Review: 3.5 Stars - Creed by authors Trisha Leaver and Lindsay Currie was one of those titles that you have no idea what to expect, but the synopsis is intriguing and you just have to find out what this small abandoned town and its residents are hiding.

I wasn’t let down about the plot. It came as somewhat of a surprise in its darkness. The overall story is a tad on the gruesome side and being that weird person that I am I was okay with that. I like a good horror story and there was just enough gore without going overboard.

The characters were interesting, yet I wished for a bit more of their back stories to get a better idea who they are as people before the events of Purity Springs happen.

The town of Purity Springs itself and its residents are extremely screwed up and the luck, Dee, Luke and Mike have for their car breaking down within walking distance… and in the middle of a ice and snow storm was pretty tragic. Within the first few pages of the book the reader gets an instant creepy vibe because the town is empty. Almost as if the everyone simply vanished.

And while the first few pages were somewhat slow, the second that the trio hits the town the book reads lightening quick. You just can’t look away from the events that have come from the imaginations of these two authors.

I might have known something bad was about to happen, but then one major thing threw me for a loop and hit me hard. Then a couple other things happened and I was shocked, including the ending and how things were wrapped up.

Now with all the praises I’ve been singing for this title, you’re wondering why I didn’t give it a higher rating. Well, I have a few reasons. First off, I wanted more of a back story for these characters. And, the story itself felt rushed and there was so much packed into such a short amount of pages. There were plenty of things that could have been expanded on to make the story so much more and add another few layers to the book to make it feel more whole and well rounded. There were also a few times that the writing was a bit flat, which again could have been corrected with some expansion to the story.

In the end I liked it. I like the gore and the suspenseful type of horror story that these two authors have written. I liked the twists I didn’t see coming and I liked how once you started reading you really couldn’t stop.  This was a great YA title with a darker side and I’m ready to read more from these two authors in the future. Looking for something suspenseful in a YA title? This fits perfectly! Happy Reading!
